Wonderful glasses

Once upon a time, there was a man who very much wanted to learn at first glance if someone’s soul was good or evil, dark or light and what his heart concealed. One day, by a sheer and magnificent chance, he managed to get hold of glasses that could help him to see through people.

What a horror!! After putting them on, he no longer could remove them, and all people appeared in front of him not in the best of appearances. As it turned out, there were many more poor people as well as people with evil hearts and vicious souls, than good people.

This person became very sad and begun to keep away from people and they from him.  Gradually he found himself alone, and painful thoughts forced him to think of death: indeed life in this terrible world was not desirable.

Suddenly, during one of these meditations the shining angel of anger appeared to him and said:

“You search perfection in others, look at yourself! How do you dare to condemn them?”

He touched these wonderful glasses and immediately this person saw himself, his soul, heart and thoughts. Everywhere he saw imperfection and,  in horror, he exclaimed:

“God! What a sinner I am! Forgive me! At this, the glasses fell to his feet and were scattered in thousands pieces.

“What can I do now, Lord? How to live?”

“Do not become too proud, forgive people their weakness and you will be happy” said angel and disappeared.
